Recently, a group of high school students released research results stating that the historically renowned cable system of Hwaseong Fortress was used to move materials for construction, not to build the fortress itself, catching the public by surprise.

Of course, this research result was not the first of its kind. This topic has long been discussed among researchers.

Regardless of what it was really used for, it is undisputable that the cable system saved labor and reduced costs when building the fortress.

The newly constructed Hwaseong Museum was built to illuminate Hwaseong Fortress’s cultural, scientific, and historic value in a different light and to pay tribute to the artistic merit and scientific technology of those times.

Hwaseong Fortress is one of Korea’s most prized historic sites. Carefully reconstructed, it is a leading example of fortress construction in Asia, post 19th century. There were calls for a museum dedicated to this prized fortress, and now it seems those calls have been heeded.

The exterior of the museum is comprised of glass, allowing warm sunlight into the building. A clear autumn day would be the perfect time to visit the museum. If you are in need of a quick pit stop for some relaxation and recovery, visit the museum cafe and laze away your afternoon.

Visiting by car? Park your vehicle at Hwaseong Museum before visiting the fortress. It is located right in the heart of the fortress. Access to nearby attractions is very good, making it a great place to start your journey.

The Suwon Stream near Paldalmun Gate is being restored twenty years after it was covered. Hopefully its original beauty will eventually be restored. Once restoration is complete, there will be a nice route for strolling after viewing the fortress.

I also suggest taking a look around the nearby traditional market. It is a very unique experience for any traveler. So, how about visiting Suwon Fortress this autumn and savoring the beautiful weather?1073486998.jpg ImagesThe exterior of the museum is comprised of glass, allowing warm sunlight into the building.
