The Korea Beauty Design Expo (Beaudex) 2011, which introduced the present and future faces of Korea’s beauty industry, a new national growth engine, ended in great success on October 3. The 3rd annual edition of Beaudex, a leading professional exhibition of the beauty industry, was hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and supervised by the Beaudex committee.
Given its status as Korea’s biggest beauty expo, some 200 outstanding beauty companies participated, offering a wide variety of programs. Nearly 12,000 people visited the exhibition on October 28, the opening day, and a further 22,000 came on the weekend, bringing the total number of visitors to 34,000 during the three-day exhibition period.
The exhibition attracted many visitors with its wide range of shows, including a hair show performed by Gwon Hong and the Korea Up Style Association, graduation project shows by students of Seo Kyeong University and Jeonghwa Arts University, a beauty illustration exhibition, henna art, body painting and parades, as well as individual programs offered at each company’s booth.
It also provided an abundance of beauty information through diverse programs including a special lecture on ‘Policy Direction for the Development of the Beauty Industry’ by Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, seminars on new technologies for eyelash and skin care, and employment counseling by Jun Park’s Beauty Lab.

In particular, the Beauty Experience Center enjoyed great popularity with many visitors of different ages as it provided many experience beauty care programs including makeup, hair, nail art, scalp care, skin care, henna art and eyelash care.
The Beauty Contest was conducted by three groups of high school students, university students, and adults, with 1,780 future beauty industry personnel participating in eight areas. The winners of the Minister’s Award and the Gyeonggi Governor’s Award were honored with nearly KRW 23 million worth of prizes including overseas beauty training tickets, travel tickets, and free passes for beauty academies.
In addition to the contest, there were many social contribution events such as multicultural choir performances and a celebrity bazaar and auction for the needy at the exhibition. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to children in difficulty.
Governor Kim Moon-soo, also chair of the 2011 Beaudex Organization Committee, said, “Due to the massive participation of companies and visitors, the exhibition was a great success. Next year, an even greater range of excellent programs will be organized to enable visitors to experience more colorful attractions and acquire the very latest beauty information”.
