With the coming of the New Year, the Thermometer Tower of Caring will warm up this year as well.
Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) held a launching ceremony for the 2012 Sharing Campaign of Hope on December 1st at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex.
The Sharing Campaign of Hope, which began in 2004, marks its seventh anniversary this year. With this launching ceremony, the campaign will raise funds for two months through to next January under the slogans of ‘Fruits of Love’ and Sharing Returns as Happiness. The fund-raising target for 2011 is KRW 11 billion.
The Thermometer Tower of Caring was installed at the 5-way intersection in front of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex and will encourage fund-raising activities until January 31st, 2012. The Thermometer Tower of Caring will reach 100 degrees when the goal of KRW 11 billion is reached. For every KRW 110 million (1% of the goal) raised, the “mercury” of thermometer will rise by 1 degree, thus displaying the progress in raising funds during the campaign.
The launching ceremony was held under the slogan of ‘Sharing is the Beginning of New Change.’ Approximately 100 people participated in the event including Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, of Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) President Choe Shin-won, Gyeonggi Provincial Council Chairman Huh Jae-an, and Suwon City Mayor Yeom Tae-young as well as ‘Fruit of Love’ Ambassadors Hyun Sook, Namgung Ok-boon, Kim Heung-kook, and Park Hyo-ju.
Kim Heung-kook was the MC for the event. Students of the Siheung regional children’s center staged a hand bell performance, and the ‘Fruit of Love’ ambassador appointment ceremony took place. Attendees made donations to the ‘Fruit of Love’ donation box, and they demonstrated the rising “mercury” of the thermometer tower with the aim of hitting 100 degrees. At the end of the event, all participants released balloons to express their hopes for the success of the campaign.
Governor Kim Moon-soo said, “The goal of this campaign is to amass KRW 11 billion through the months of December and January and to deliver these funds to our neighbors in need.” He continued, “We’ll do our utmost to collect small donations for those who suffer in the cold at the end of the year and to create a warmer Gyeonggi Province.”
Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) President Choe Shin-won said, “There are many solitary seniors and children from broken homes. We must ensure that solitary seniors can at least maintain minimum activities, and create an environment in which children from broken homes can study. I hope that many provincial residents will join this cause.”
The Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) plans to combine 2011’s goal of KRW 11 billion with an approximately KRW 26.4 billion in donations accumulated during 2010 for social welfare projects such as: supporting medical/living costs for the underprivileged; improving the quality of life for seniors, handicapped, and child heads of households; and supporting social welfare-related community programs.
The Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) will undertake various fundraising activities so that provincial residents can participate in the fundraising anytime and anywhere. Some of the activities include the wearing of ‘Fruit of Love’ badges to signify caring for neighbors, change collection at expressway toll gates, broadcast donations, electronic billing donations, dial-in donations through ARS 060-700-1212 (KRW 2,000 for 1 call), and account donations. Members of the public can also call for donation counseling (080-890-1212) to identify convenient means of participating in the cause.
Through the Sharing Campaign of Hope, the Community Check of Korea (Gyeonggi Province branch) raised KRW 12 billion in 2009, KRW 15.3 billion in 2010, and KRW 10.4 billion in 2011.
