Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Moon-soo) and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (CEO Hwang Jun-gi) decided to attract 10,000 tourists from central China and launched a sales promotion campaign with the Korea Tourism Organization and Qingdao of China.

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization developed a Korea-China combination product (1 night in Qingdao and 2-3 nights in Gyeonggi Province with Hwaseong Fortress, Everland Resort, Korean Folk Village, and DMZ included) for inland tourists from Henan, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Chinghai, and Shandong. The organization has laid the foundations for attracting 10,000 tourists from the new market of inland China between October 2011 and September 2012.

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization observed a rapid surge in potential demand for tourism products from inland China due to the recent revitalization of the home market and the balanced western inland development policy of the Chinese government. The organization has strategically diversified its Chinese tourism market with the development of this product.

In order to attract a large number of tourists from inland China, the organization initiated a large-scale sales promotion campaign in five provinces in late October. The organization also co-conducted its first promotion briefing event for tour companies from Henan and Shanxi with the Korea Tourism Organization and Qingdao from November 29 to December 2. Early in 2012, the organization plans to undertake a second promotion briefing event in Inner Mongolia and Chinghai in a drive to increase the chances of successfully attracting 10,000 tourists from inland China.

In particular, the organization co-developed the ‘Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea + Gyeonggi Province Schedule’ product with Shandong and inland tour companies to attract Chinese tourists who plan to visit Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea. The company expects this product to lure many Chinese tourists to Gyeonggi Province during the period of the expo.

Furthermore, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization plans to conduct a familiarization tour for approximately 30 Korean product managers from tour companies based in inland China, Shandong, and Qingdao to stimulate demand for trips to Gyeonggi Province in the inland market and to actively target Shandong, the source of 140,000 visitors to Korea annually.

The organization plans to invite Shandong and Qingdao TV representatives in mid-December to cover tourism resources in accordance with the product schedule and broadcast a special program. Considering its product values and price competitiveness, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization expects to encounter little difficulty in attracting 10,000 tourists from inland China.

Hwang jun-gi, the CEO of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, said, “Inland China is currently enjoying an annual economic growth rate of 13%, and we plan to collaborate with public institutions and tour companies to actively conduct our marketing in a bid to attract tourists from inland China to Gyeonggi Province.” He continued by saying, “We’ll be more active in developing shopping products favorable to the Chinese so that Gyeonggi Province becomes a new center of attraction for Chinese tourists.”
