The association invited 45 elementary school children to its facilities at Bugok-ri in Yangju City to spend a happy day experiencing Korean traditional culture. Some were children under the special care of Yangju City while others were from the Kwangmyeong Children’s Home and Hanguk Orphanage.
The event was organized by KORCEA to help less fortunate children overcome their lack of cultural experiences and enjoy a variety of traditional Korean cultural activities and plays.
The event, called the ‘Love-Sharing Children’s Cultural Experience Program,’consisted of a variety of fun-packed programs such as ice sledding, traditional Korean archery, a traditional board game called yunnori, hoop rolling, a fantastic magic bubble show and bubble making, and paraffin wax handicraft in which the children had a chance to make their hand patterns with paraffin wax.
The children also enjoyed making Magic-Poli-Mini necklaces, which magically shrink in ovens, and had fun using their own imaginations while making traditional Korean masks, hahoetal, with clay. The children had a great time demonstrating their creativity through all these fun experiences and games.
An official of the association said, “With this event, we thought that we should work harder to share what we have with the unfortunate, particularly in the areas of culture and arts. We will continue to expand our hands-on programs and family-oriented plays. We will make this place a source of dreams, love and hope.
