Gyeonggi Province opens doors to Russia for domestic hospitals.

Gyeonggi Province announced on March 7 that it had signed an MOU in Vladivostok on March 6 for the development of medical health care with Myongji Hospital (Kwandong University, Korea), the government of Primorsky Krai (Russian Federation) and the Russia National Maternal and Children Hospital (Primorsky Krai, Russia).

The MOU covers the following: (1) exchange of medical personnel including the training of Russian medical personnel; (2) the support of accreditation for medical information systems and assistance with imports and exports; (3) the exchange of information regarding health policies including the development of intensive care and emergency medical service systems; and (4) the establishment and support of medical facilities in Russia including public medical facilities.

During the Korean delegation’s visit to Russia, Myongji Hospital, for the first time among local medical institutions, executed an agreement to establish a comprehensive Korean-style physical examination center in Vladivostok in collaboration with the National Primorsky Maternal and Children Hospital; the facility is slated to open in August of 2012.

The tentatively named Myongji International Physical Examination Center will be established on the first floor of the National Primorsky Physical Examination Center in a space of 1,000 square meters. It will be equipped with a variety of diagnostic equipment and facilities including MDCT.

The physical examination center will be staffed with five Koreans, including medical professionals and management staff, and 25 local staff members. The Maternal and Children Hospital will be responsible for facilities including the interior and local personnel, while Myongji Hospital will be in charge of major equipment, physical examination and management knowhow as well as service education and training.

In particular, a U-Health Center will be installed in the facility. It will provide remote diagnostics and tele-counseling for those who warrant further medical attention as a result of their physical examinations. The U-Health Center will offer them accurate medical services in an expedited manner.

Gyeonggi Province expects that its support of a local medical institution in the establishment of an international physical examination center overseas will help gain recognition for Korea’s advanced medical technology to among a wider audience both in the country and around the world on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit Meeting to be held in Vladivostok in September this year.

It also expects that the services at the physical examination center will draw more Russian patients to medical facilities in Korea.

Kim Yong-yeon, Director of Health and Welfare for Gyeonggi Province said, “We anticipate that the execution of the MOU with the government of Primorsky Krai will be an opportunity to promote active cooperation in the area of medical health care between the countries.”

Gyeonggi Province signed an MOU with Khabarovsk Krai in October of 2010 for the development of medical healthcare, and opened the Khabarovsk GMBC (Gyeonggi Medical Business Center) there in December of 2011.

In June of 2011, Gyeonggi Province held an overseas medical service seminar in Vladivostok and took part in a meeting with the Ministry of Health of Primorsky Krai as part of efforts to further expand medical healthcare exchange between Gyeonggi Province and the Russian Far East.
