Gyeonggi Province announced that ten textile manufacturers that attended Tex World USA 2012 in New York, held for three days from July 24 to 27, held talks on deals worth USD 30 million, and signed export contracts worth USD 16.2 million, a much greater achievement than anyone expected.
This year’s exhibition, hosted by New York, the center of all things fashion, was attended by over 550 companies (70% of which were from China) hailing from nineteen nations.
Due to Europe’s economic difficulties and the global depression, the number of buyers dropped by thirty percent compared to last year. However, Gyeonggi Province’s textile companies fared very well at this year’s exhibition due largely to their unique high-tech items of outstanding quality, and their heightened brand awareness thanks to the regional government’s constant appearances at international exhibitions.
The provincial government opened the Gyeonggi Textile Marketing Center (GTC) in New York last May to support buyer and seller communication and ensure constant exposure in the market. More export contracts are expected to come in the near future.
Gyeonggi Province’s Specialized Industries Division and its personnel are planning to support forty select local companies to attend Munich Fabric Start (Sep 4 to 6), the Korea Preview in Milan (Sep 12 to 13), France Premier Vision (Sep 19 to 21), and the Moscow International Textile Exhibition (Sep 25 to 28).
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “Next year we are planning to expand our support to promote attendance at overseas exhibitions. We will continue to foster small textile companies into mid-sized exporters.”
