Preparations for the world’s largest international energy industry event, Gastech 2014, have begun at last.

The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization signed an MOU with the Korea Tourism Organization, Korea Gas Corporation, KINTEX, and the Gastech Representative Korea at KINTEX in Gyeonggi Province for cooperation in the hosting of Gastech 2014.

The memorandum promises close collaboration between the organizations as well as the promotion of Gyeonggi Province’s notable tourist destinations with Gastech 2014.

Gastech is an international gas convention held every 18 months. It is one of three major international gas conferences along with the World Gas Conference and the International LNG Conference.

The next Gastech will be held in March 2014 and is likely to attract the world’s largest oil companies and over 400 global energy-related businesses from around the world. Approximately 15,000 people including ministers and vice-ministers related to the gas industry will attend as well.

Gyeonggi Tourist Organization President Hwang Jun-gi stated that, “We are not going to settle simply for hosting this event. We will apply what we learn to host Rotary 2016 International and LNG 2019. This MOU is the starting point for an event that will accommodate 15,000 people. Gyeonggi Province will develop more tourist programs and improve accommodations in the region to get the best out of the event.”

Gyeonggi Province has successfully won the right to host Gastech 2014 at KINTEX in Ilsan, after a heated competition with Houston, Texas, of the US and Rio de Janeiro of Brazil. This will be the largest international tour convention to be hosted in Korea yet.
