Sinchon Elementary School in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, has introduced a new program titled “Traditional Etiquette and Tea” in an effort to teach good manners and conduct to young children. Under the program, which was supervised by leading members of the Korea Association for Community Education of Goyang, children are taught about the origins of tea, the different types of tea and utensils used in tea ceremonies, how to infuse tea, and how to drink it.

The school children looked uncomfortable and awkward in the traditional clothes, but they adjusted their collars as they tried to sit up straight. Many were intrigued by their first encounter with all sorts of tea paraphernalia while others learned how to enjoy the bitter sweet flavor of traditional tea.14.jpg Images◇ Korean Tea Ceremony in Traditional Attire ⓒ Gyeonggi Junior Reporter Seong Ye-rim

The traditional tea program offered a valuable new experience to young children who are more used to artificial soft drinks and sports drinks.
