Korea’s largest business fair for small and medium businesses, 2012 G-FAIR KOREA, closed after four days as scheduled. The fair is recognized as an ideal place to learn about global business and start-up trends.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center oversaw this year’s 2012 G-FAIR KOREA, a successful event that took place at the KINTEX 1st Exhibition Center from October 17 to 20. It is said to have attracted 1,100 domestic and international buyers and around 60,000 other visitors.
This year’s exhibition invited overseas buyers and local distributors to discuss possible exports and sales, along with diverse seminars on start-ups and other topics. It was very important that small and medium businesses find new opportunities at the fair.
Over 600 buyers from 34 nations including the U.S, Germany, China, Ghana, and Lebanon participated in the fair. There were 4,197 consulting sessions and possible business deals worth over USD 600 million in total were discussed.

Lotte Mart, Home Plus, and 247 other buyers from on and offline distributors participated in the local distributor and buyer sales consulting session, adding up to 1,381 counselings worth KRW 96.8 billion.
Jincostech Co., Ltd. (based in Ansan City), a manufacturer of cosmetic face masks containing chitosan, developed a unique, superior quality product but experienced difficulty finding a sales route. However, thanks to this year’s fair, they signed a deal worth USD 850,000 with a US-based beauty and sports company.
There considerable communication between major distributors and businesses. YONGSUNGELECTRIC Co., Ltd., based in Gwangju City, manufactures quality electronic parts, which were soon noticed by company “H”, and discussed a transaction that could be worth KRW 1 billion. They are expected to sign a supply contract worth KRW 200 million.
DS Telecom Co., Ltd. President Kim Do-young said, “It is easier to spot points for improvement when talking with the buyers one-on-one. In this way, we can keep our quality up to their standards. It is hard to come across an opportunity where the buyers walk up to your booth to show their interest. It was very helpful in creating actual revenue.”
The event was accompanied by the Korea Superior Product Exhibition, the Gyeonggi Small Business Expo, and the G-Industrial Design Fair, so there were plenty of opportunities for all. The exhibition period was extended to Saturday so more members of the public could visit the fair.
The Gyeonggi Small Business Expo was bustling with potential business people. Divided into town businesses, social businesses, and franchises, some 4,258 consulting sessions were held, at which deals worth KRW 35.4 billion in total were discussed.
Participant Jeong Ji-hun (28) said, “I came here because I wanted to get more information on starting my own business. I got lots of product ideas and the consulting really helped me get the advice I needed.”
The G-Industrial Design Fair attracted many visitors with its eye-catching displays and unique designs. The design contest award-winners and commercial products displayed the today and tomorrow of industrial design.
GSBC Director Min Gyeong-seon said, “I hope the 2012 G-FAIR KOREA allows Korean small and medium-sized businesses to discover niche markets and routes during these hard times so they can become viable companies.”
Other events included: seminars on online overseas marketing strategies; entry into the Indian and Chinese markets; general business based on FTA regulations; boosting social enterprises; marketing to the public and prioritizing social enterprises; and examples of successful social enterprises, all of which were popular among visitors.
Gang Mi-jeong (42) visited the exhibition on Saturday with her family.
“There were so many products on display. I felt there was something for every member of our family. I feel my time here was well spent because I had the opportunity to browse products I’ve never seen before and even purchase them if I liked them.”
