The Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum, established as a means of providing opportunities for networking and exchanging knowledge between industry and academic institutions related to Gwanggyo Techno Valley, launched a “science experience class for young people” with the aim of encouraging future science talents.

On November 3rd, Gyeonggi Province and the Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum (President Hong Gi-hwa) launched the “science experience class for young people,” in which ninety-two students from vulnerable social groups in the Suwon Gwanggyo Techno Valley area participated.

This science experience event was organized with the aim of encouraging scientific interest among middle and high school students from vulnerable social groups within the province who have little or no opportunity to experience high-tech science. The program was supported financially by the Gyeonggi Community Association Subsidy and various institutions within the Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum.

The event proceeded with lectures and scientific activities. First, Inspector Jang Jun-seong of the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, who was one of the six finalists in the nation’s first contest to select an astronaut, talked to the participants about space, the last great unknown, in a lecture entitled, “Our Future: Space Exploration.”

During the lecture, Inspector Jang, who has also been selected as the Science Technology Ambassador by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, commanded the students’ attention with his many interesting stories.

The class progressed with a visit to the cutting-edge technological facilities developed by the Gyeonggi Bio Center, the Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center, and the Advanced Institutes of Convergence Technology – the member institutes of the Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum.

One high school student who participated in this year’s class said, “I have dreamed of becoming a pharmacist since I was young, so it was a valuable experience for me to listen to the detailed presentations on new drug development and to tour the research labs,” adding, “It definitely provided me with greater motivation to work hard to achieve my dream.”

Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum President Hong Gi-hwa said, “It is very meaningful in that the institutes within the Gwanggyo Techno Valley Complex, which is Korea’s representative innovation cluster, have cooperated to create this class with the hope of encouraging the next generation of talented scientists.”

The Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum will hold a second science experience class on November 24th. For more information, please contact the Gwanggyo Knowledge Forum Office at 031-259-6050, 605410.jpg Images◇ The participating students taking commemorative pictures ⓒ G-News Plus
