The South Korean province of Gyeonggi signed an agreement Monday with the U.S. state of Georgia on promoting cooperation in the education sector.

The two sides agreed to step up exchanges of teachers and students, and push for partnerships between charter schools under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) inked here by Kim Sang-gon, the head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Georgia State School Superintendent John Barge.

“The singing of the MOU will contribute to the introduction of English and American culture to South Korea,” Kim told Barge.

The Georgian school chief said there is growing interest in multi-culture in his state amid a growing number of ethnic groups. He added he expects to introduce Korean culture to residents in the state.

Surrounding the capital city of Seoul, Gyeonggi Province has a population of more than 12 million.
