Gyeonggi Provincial Museum

The Gyeonggi Provincial Museum in Yongin is holding a special exhibition titled “The Life and Culture of American Indian ― Mimbres Pottery and Basket” until February 24. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to learn all about the way of life of Mimbres Indians who inhabited the southwestern part of the USA.

Visitors can appreciate the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon in the southwest of the USA, as well as the pottery and intricate baskets produced by the Mimbres culture. The museum is screening Pocahontas, a movie that depicts Indians’ way of life in an interesting way, every Sunday.

The museum is also running a special winter vacation program titled “Dongdong Haha” (meaning “Winter, Winter; Summer, Summer”), which allows children to learn about and experience the way children used to live through an exhibition organized in an ancient school house, from January 22 to 25.

Participating children will get to learn about Saja Sohak, a collection of ethical teachings, take a state examination, and participate in an award ceremony in which eosahwa (royal flowers) will be presented to children who pass the test.2.jpg Images◇ Nam Jun Paik’s “Fish Flies in the Sky…” Liberates the imagination ⓒ G-NEWS PLUS

Nam June Paik Art Center

A special exhibition titled “Nostalgia Is Extended Feedback” will be held until January 20 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of Nam June Paik (1932-2006), a world-renowned Korean media artist, musician, and Fluxus artist.

The title of this exhibition was inspired by the topic of a text written by Nam June Paik in 1992. Various robots, which symbolize communication between humanity and machines, perform theatrical acts on stage. In particular, images of actually moving robots will provide an excellent opportunity for children to expand and enrich their imaginations.

As part of the special winter vacation program, the installation work titled “Fish Flies in the Sky…” will be on exhibition until February 18. The work features TV monitors installed on the ceiling of the museum, which requires visitors to lie down on the floor to appreciate it. The unusual images of swimming fish appearing on the monitors, which might be considered impossible in reality, serve to awaken and liberate children’s imagination.
