On February 1, Gyeonggi English Village Paju Camp (Principal: Yeh Chang-keun) was selected as an exemplary institution for young foreign students’ educational visits to Korea in 2012.
The Paju Camp was in recognition of its accomplishments, including the operation of diverse international exchange programs after signing agreements with prestigious schools and other educational institutions in Japan and Thailand.
The English village has made concerted efforts to promote exchanges after signing agreements with prestigious schools and other educational institutions overseas, including Mahasarakham University in Thailand and Aso Group, a leading educational business in Kyushu, Japan that runs twelve universities.
The English village has also developed an international program of exchanges and training, with which many students have expressed their satisfaction. As a result of these and other efforts, the number of foreign students (from Thailand, Japan, Russia, Taiwan and France) visiting the village has gradually increased since 2009. So far, more than a thousand students have attended programs run by the village.
The English village provides students with opportunities to cultivate themselves as members of the global village and to mix and build friendships with fellow students from other countries, in addition to improving their English proficiency.
Commenting on the programs run by the English village, a village official said, “Our programs are welcomed by many students from non-English-speaking countries, as they can achieve educational effects comparable to a stay in a small village in an English speaking country. In addition to improving their English proficiency and broadening their academic knowledge, they spend a lot of time together with English-speaking teachers, participating in a joyful hands-on experience together with friends from other countries. The particular strength of this village is that its overall operation is supported by a reliable local government.”
In an interview with the reporter, Principal Yeh Chang-keun of Paju Camp said, “The selection of the Paju Camp for the citation shows that our good facilities and educational programs are recognized domestically and internationally. We will continue to strive for brisk exchanges with many educational institutions both at home and abroad.”
