After 4 nights and 5 days visit to US, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo visited the press corps of Gyeonggi Province and explained the outcomes of the visit on April 22.

The delegation of Gyeonggi Province tried to attract investment in the west region of US including Seattle during the visit, resulting in gaining a total of USD 245 million in investment and creating 1542 jobs.

In particular, it was hard work of Governor Kim and officials from Gyeonggi Province Economy Investment Department that attracted Costco’s logistics center to the 2nd Poseung Industrial Complex and Shinsegae Chelsea Outlet in Siheung.

To attract the Costco’s logistics center, Gyeonggi Provincial Investment Promotion Team is known to closely analyze the relevant issues such as the proper location and the adverse effects on domestic small-sized logistics company, and also to dedicate themselves to promoting investment in a meticulous manner.

Also, it is said that attracting Shinsegae Chelsea Outlet was possible as Gyeonggi Province proposed the best conditions for Simon Group by previously investigating all the matters related to the location including synergy effect of neighboring facilities, traffic conditions, and population of the hinterland.

Governor Kim said, “At first, we worried due to the North’s nuclear issue, but the anxiety of US entrepreneurs was minor.” He suggested a solution to the current economic slowdown, saying “At a time like this, we should focus on attracting overseas investment and increase domestic investment by actively addressing anti-business sentiment and regulation issues so that our economy can be revived.”

That means that while politicians are recently discussing an extra budget for economic stimulation, we can attract much more private investment if the regulation issues and anti-business sentiment are addressed.

In fact, Governor Kim recently convinced Samsung Electronics to establish 2 more lines of the semi-conductor factory as it planned when the company hesitated to invest the facility due to the recent hydrofluoric acid accident of Hwaseong Office and the protest by the resident.

After grasping US manufacturing circumstances and models of business and academic cooperation through the tour of the Boeing’s manufacturing site and ‘C4C(Center for Commercialization) program’ of Washington University, Governor Kim said, “Korea’s competitiveness never lags behind US in the manufacturing industry.” He suggested, “We will actively promote both sales of the domestic market and US exports by assigning R&D roles to US and manufacturing roles to our small companies.”

In addition to this, he suggested the job creating plan, saying “To export our agricultural and stockbreeding professionals to US can be one of the measures. Noting is impossible when we fully nurture strengths of our diligent and devoted professionals.”

For the induction of overseas investment and the directions of business support in the future, one official from Gyeonggi Province said, “We need to create proper investment environment for customized investment by proposing the best conditions for the needs of the companies.” He also said, “We will further attract investment in a systematic way and further develop business support programs, for example, by supporting domestic companies in delivering goods overseas and for technological cooperation with overseas companies, and supporting general consulting to small companies having superior technologies.”2.jpg Images◇ Governor Kim explains the outcomes of the US visit in the press corps room of Gyeonggi Provincial Office in the afternoon of 22. ⓒ G-News / Heo Seon-ryang
