Meaning of good fortune from pottery

Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum and the National Folk Museum of Korea co-host special exhibition.

Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum of Korea Ceramic Foundation will hold the special exhibition <Good Fortune, Decoration For Ardent Desire> from May 10 to July 7, as the joint exhibition with the National Folk Museum of Korea.
 
The exhibition <Good Fortune, Decoration For Ardent Desire> will be held by the cooperation of Korea Ceramic Foundation and the National Museum, focusing on the symbolic meaning of the artworks in terms of ‘good fortune’, which is one of the most important concepts for Koreans.

The exhibition consists of 3 sections including Section 1 ‘Beautiful letters delivering good fortune’, Section 2 ‘Symbol of good fortune for the decorations of food, clothing, and shelter – Gilsang Letters & Patterns’, and Section 3 ‘Various aspirations behind Korean folklore’, and it displays 142 cases and 164 pieces of potteries and folk arts which embody the symbol of good fortune.

At the exhibition, visitors can find out Gilsang Letters showing good fortune literally and Gilsang Patterns containing the meaning of good fortune from the traditional lives of Korean people and also look into our ancestors’ lives who sought good fortune in their daily lives through more than 140 cases of relics from the late Joseon Dynasty.◇ Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum of Korea Ceramic Foundation will hold the special exhibition <Good Fortune, Decoration For Ardent Desire> from May 10 to July 7 as the joint exhibition with the National Folk Museum of Korea. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News

In addition to this, Image & Photo Zone and events where visitors can participate make the exhibition more enjoyable. The admission fee of Gyeonggi Ceramic Museum is KRW 3,000 for adults, and Gyeonggi residents or group visitors consisting of more than 20 people are offered discounts.
 
The exhibition <Good Fortune, Decoration For Ardent Desire> is part of the ‘joint special exhibition’ project that the National Folk Museum and regional museums carries out in mutual cooperation. In particular, the exhibition is expected to be meaningful as it starts at the same time as the start of opening festival of Gonjiam Ceramic Park of Gwangju after renovation on May 10.◇ At the exhibition, visitors can look into our ancestors’ lives who sought good fortune in their daily lives through more than 140 cases of relics from the late Joseon Dynasty. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News
