Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo was awarded Grand Prize for the government and public sector in ‘The 1st Korean Reliability Awards’, held by the Korean Reliability Society.

Governor Kim was awarded Korean Reliability Award at the awards ceremony of Korean Reliability Awards held at Ramada Plaza Hotel of Suwon City on May 22 at 11 a.m., with Samsung Electronics co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun for the manufacturing sector and LG CNS CEO Kim Dae-hoon for the service sector.

The Korean Reliability Society is an academic society launched on December 1999 with 71 executives and 398 members, which is intended to raise global competitiveness of domestic materials and components industry. Now, it has about 300 members with Nam Kyung-hyun (a professor of Gyeonggi University) as chairman.

The society determined to select men of merits who contributed to the enhancement and development of reliability in the government & public sector, the manufacturing sector, and the service sector from this year, and selected Governor Kim as the first laureate in the government & public sector.

During his tenure of office, Governor Kim achieved various outcomes including attracting foreign investment of KRW 16.1 billion (based on MOU concluded) from 126 companies, creating foreigner exclusive lease complex such as Jangan 1 Foreign Investment Complex of Hwaseong in order to attract high-tech component material companies, and attracting 28 companies including 3M Korea in Gyeonggi Province. Through such outcomes, his dedications to enhancing and developing reliability of domestic material and component companies, enhancing the foundation of reliability for Korea, and raising global competitiveness were recognized and brought him to the award this time.

One source from the society explained, “Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo performs extensive activities related to reliability such as field-centered communication with Gyeonggi residents, politics for public welfare, and even as a politician who admits mistakes.” He also said, “He was selected as laureate as he is not only a role model for other local governments, but also significantly contributed to raise global competitiveness.”2.jpg Images◇ At the awards ceremony of the 1st Korean Reliability Awards, Governor Kim was awarded Korean Reliability Award for the government & public sector, with Samsung Electronics co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun for the manufacturing sector and LG CNS CEO Kim Dae-hoon for the service sector. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News / Yoo Jae-hoon3.jpg Images◇ Governor Kim makes an acceptance speech. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News / Yoo Jae-hoon

In an acceptance speech on the day, Governor Kim began to speak, saying “Thank you. Thank you for awarding me such a great award, and I’d like to express my congratulations to the other two laureates.”

He continued, “When it comes to politics, people usually say they don’t trust politics, it is corrupt, it’s difficult to see politicians after election because they only appear during election campaign, politicians become rich in a flash after engaging in politics, they lie without scruple, and the likes. I didn’t want to do such things, so I didn’t want to engage in politics and I even abhorred it. I never expected I would become what I abhorred from an early age.”

He said, “In my youth, I wanted to become a revolutionist and I expected I would do so. When I was doing revolutionary works, I thought I would not live more than 40 years but die early. During his revolutionary activity, he was expelled from university, put into jail, and tortured many times. It is grateful to still live, and it is further grateful to win this award.” He pointed out, “I think there is no owner of Korea. People don’t have ownership but critical consciousness. They only denounce financial cliques and they also do not respect Korean politicians.”

Then he said, “Regardless of political parties, I now respect the past Korean presidents who made a great nation in a 65-year short history. They were who I abhorred before, but I respect them the most now. I think Korean enterprises and education is also the greatest in the world.”

Governor Kim added, “Now, I sincerely love Korea. I used to criticize Korea, thinking it as the country established upon corruption and privileges of pro-Japanese, pro-Americans, and privileged minority. However, despite such things, Korea is a great nation. I expect Korea will play a great role and show the global leadership for the whole mankind and the global leadership in education, sports, art, and other sectors.”

At the end of the speech, he said, “Those who engage in politics should live a clean and honest life. The corruption of a public official means a suicidal act. I have tried to have nothing to be ashamed of by practicing
‘Immediate elimination of corruption’ and ‘clean public welfare’, and by acting with good conscience.” He added, “Accordingly, I am often misunderstood and under criticism. Basically in politics, people see ‘public office’ as a symbol of trust for consistency of speech and action, integrity, and fulfillment of promises. This award will further encourage me to work harder.”4.jpg Images◇ After the awards ceremony, Governor Kim takes a commemorative photograph with the other laureates. ⓒ Gyeonggi G-News / Yoo Jae-hoon
