Canon Korea Business Solutions (Representative Kim Cheon-ju) completed its environmentally friendly ubiquitous plant at Sihwa MTV in Seonggok-dong, Ansan. This is the first plant in Sihwa MTV.
At the completion ceremony, which was held at 2:30 PM on May 31st, more than 200 people attended, including the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Moon Soo; the Chairman of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, Yoon Wha-sub, the Mayor of Ansan, Kim Cheol-min; Lawmaker Jeon Hae-cheol (Democratic Party/Sangnok Gap), Lawmaker Kim Myeong-yeon (Saenuri/Danwon Gap); the Representative of Canon Korea Business Solutions, Kim Cheon-ju; the Vice President of Canon Japan, Toshizo Tanaka; the CEO of Lotte Group, Sin Dong-bin; and staff members from relevant companies.
Canon Korea Business Solutions is Canon Japan’s affiliate that is responsible for business products. In 1985, Korea’s Lotte Group and Japan’s Canon Group started Canon Korea Business Solutions as a 50:50 joint venture. In 2006, the company name was changed from Lotte Canon to Canon Korea Business Solutions.
Canon Korea Business Solutions awarded the USD 300 million export tower in the Day of Export at the end of 2011, produced 5 million multifunction copiers, recorded a revenue of KRW 600 billion in 2012, and is eyeing a revenue of KRW 1 trillion in 2016.
Considering this rapid growth, Canon Korea Business Solutions signed an investment MOU with Ansan city and K-Water at the Canon Headquarters when Gyeonggi Province’s delegation visited Japan in August 2010. They broke ground in April 2012, and completed the plant on May 31, 2013.
Canon Korea Business Solutions invested around USD 100 million, will employ up to 525 people, and will increase the number of R&D personnel from 200 in 2013 to more than 300 by 2014. In terms of area, the completed plant is 5.5 times (89,090㎡) bigger than the existing Banwol Industrial Complex. With its new plant, Canon Korea Business Solutions will diversify its business area from multifunction copiers to medical devices, secondary cell batteries, and other advanced future technologies. This will result in promoting Gyeonggi Province as Canon’s best manufacturing and R&D base.
“I hope that Canon Korea Business Solutions will employ Gyeonggi Province’s developed industrial infrastructure and rich R&D personnel to lead the way in creating a successful business,” said the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Moon Soo, in his ceremonial speech. “I will keep improving investment environments and providing administrative support to enable foreign companies to create jobs, transfer advanced technology, and revitalize the local economy.”
