Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (GSBC) recorded USD 40 million worth of contracts at 2013 G-TRADE FTA Export Consulting Fair held on June 28, gives a green light to enter into a new FTA market for exporters within the province.
The fair was designed to give more opportunities for SMEs in Gyeonggi Province to open up a FTA market. Buyers of 45 companies from 13 FTA partner countries and relevant countries were invited and provided one- on one consulting by officials from 180 companies in the province.
With inviting a lot of buyers from auto parts, the main beneficiary of the Korea-US FTA, automobile parts, LEDs, housewares, and food and beverage were mainly discussed.
At the fair, Company B, a manufacture of digital door-locks for vehicles in Ansan City, proceeded a case worth approximately USD 1.75 million with Company A, an automobile parts company in the U.S., and Company J, a cosmetics manufacturer in Yongin City, did a case worth nearly USD 100,000 for soap products available for promotional purpose with Company I, which mainly carries household items and cosmetics in the U.S..
A buyer at Company H, a cosmetics manufacture in the U.S, said, “Thanks to Korean wave, demand for consumer goods and cosmetic products made in Korea has been gradually increasing in the US market,” adding that, “It was a great opportunity to see a wide range of high quality Korean products , and we plan to sign a contract with one of natural soap manufacturers we are consulted today.”
In addition, a buyer from Company T, an India-based automobile company, said, “Consulted with a Korean brake manufacturer, I realized the quality of their products and technology were reliable in every aspect. I am interested in concluding an agreement with the company and I expect a good result.”
One official from E.S. Brake, an automobile parts manufacturer, said, “As the U.S. automakers have regained their competitive edge through corporate restructuring , the demand for automobile parts are gradually increasing,”expressing his opinions that “I hope the fair with FTA partner countries will significantly help in entering into overseas markets.”
GSBC President Hong Ki-hwa commented, “I hope this fair will be a great help to SME which have a hard time in exporting their goods by taking advantage of FTA. We will make every effort to encourage SMEs to rapidly adjust to maximize the benefits of FTAs.”
