The Visiting Unlimited Care Center of Gyeonggi Province saved another precious life facing danger.

It was belatedly discovered that the Visiting Unlimited Care Center saved the life of a 55-year-old man who was neglected in a room by himself with nutrient deficiency back in early August with scorching heat.

Chung, an Anyang citizen, was discovered by a neighbor in a state of prostration on August 1, and was sent to the emergency room of a nearby hospital immediately. However, he was so weak that he could not properly describe his pain, and he was forced to return without adequate treatment as he did not have a guardian.

Upon hearing this news, the Visiting Unlimited Care Center of Anyang visited Chung the next day with exclusive public officials including Seoksu 3-dong social worker Lee Soon-gu, and transferred Chung who was in a coma immediately to the emergency room for treatment.

Lee Soon-gu commented that, “Chung was in extremely poor health with nutrient deficiency, acute renal insufficiency, and liver disease,” adding, “If he remained neglected, his life would have been in danger. Chung is in a much better state as he regained consciousness, but he still needs more treatment.”

The Anyang Unlimited Care Center will cover all Chung’s medical expenses and appoint him for focused management even after his discharge from the hospital, providing continuous support.

On January 24, Governor Kim Moon-soo visited a family in crisis who live in Won-dong, Osan, providing Unlimited Care including KRW 25 million to cover the operation expenses for three-year-old Lee Mi-young  who was in urgent need of a liver transplant due to biliary atresia.

On January 22, the Goyang Unlimited Care Center also saved three sisters close to starvation in a semi-basement room of a multiplex housing in Haengju-dong upon receiving a neighbor’s report. This incident showed the significance of finding welfare dead zones, serving as a momentum for the creation of the Visiting Unlimited Care Center.

To enhance the function of finding the socially vulnerable class in danger, Gyeonggi Province is managing the Visiting Unlimited Care Center since February 25. Two to three workers from the center visit various places around the province every Tuesday and Thursday to find residents neglected due to lack of information and difficulty in movement.

The Visiting Unlimited Care Center of Gyeonggi Province has visited 4,222 households and provided support for 3,519 households since late February.

Whenever he met people with economic problems, Governor Kim Moon-soo has always said, “Many neglected people are not aware of the Unlimited Care system and thus are not protected properly. If you’re in a tough situation, you must let others know immediately to break away from the difficulty.”

He also emphasized on-the-spot administration to the Gyeonggi public officials, saying, “Don’t be conscious of critical views that this is a show or an event; instead, make efforts for pleasure and happiness of the Gyeonggi residents. It is the duty and dream of public officials to provide unlimited care and service for the Gyeonggi residents, especially for the underprivileged.”

The Gyeonggi Province Unlimited Care began in November 2008 to help stabilize the life of families in crisis with a separate Gyeonggi budget, for families that face difficulties as they do not meet the government requirements for support despite their situation of having income of less than 170 % of the minimum cost of living. This project supported a total of over KRW 7.5 billion for 8,297 households as of the end of July.
