The 2013 K-Beauty Expo, which showed everything about the beauty industry, ended successfully on September 15, achieving industrialization, globalization and commercialization.
This event was held in KINTEX, Goyang, under the theme of The Value of Reborn Beauty, setting new records in all fields such as contracts, overseas buyers and audience size, and establishing a new milestone for the Korean beauty industry.
“The incredible attention and participation of companies, overseas buyers and public visitors showed a potential for the growth of the Korean beauty industry,” said Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo. “Joint efforts of the industry and the government are continuously required for the Korean beauty industry to have global competitiveness.”
The most important characteristic of this event is that it has transformed into a comprehensive exhibition combined with deals and trade between companies, unlike previous exhibitions that focused on deals and trade between general consumers and companies.
The province invited over 300 world-renowned buyers from 34 countries such as the U.S., EU, Russia, Japan and China to pursue overseas market expansions of Korean beauty companies. The scope of participants of the Expo, which had been limited to cosmetics and beauty products, expanded to beauty tourism, health care, plastic surgery and medical service with an effort to embrace the entire beauty industry.
These efforts resulted in the biggest exhibition space in history with 32, 157㎡ with the participation of 510 leading beauty companies from Korea and overseas, which is five times increase from the participants last year. The event also set up the record that their aim to invite 500 companies was accomplished more than a month ahead of the application deadline.

Interests and careful preparations for the K-Beauty Expo are clearly displayed in the contract results.
The contracts achieved in this year’s event added up to USD 13 million and the consulting amount USD 58 million as of September 14, one day before the closing ceremony. The contract amount will further increase considering the possibility of real transaction after consultation.
Many beauty companies in Korea were also given the opportunity to expand overseas markets. In particular, Yesroad of Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, received attention by signing an exclusive contract with an Iranian buyer to export Badamiso cosmetics worth USD one million.
Jubicos CEO Lee Jin-gi commented,“We had great faith in the event as Gyeonggi Province invited overseas buyers strictly selected by KOTRA and agents, and could achieve satisfying results for export,” expressing his expectations that, “We will continue consulting with buyers after the exhibition to achieve good results.”
“It was a first for us, so consulting for export was a little difficult. “But translation services made it more convenient. We will make better preparations and produce great results next year,” said one CEO of a company that participated in the exhibition for the first time.
