The Gyeonggi Textile Business Support Center opened in Yangju City to support the development of Gyeonggi as a textile industry center.
Gyeonggi Province, Yangju City and the Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center (GSBC) held the opening ceremony for the Gyeonggi Textile Business Support Center on December 27, 2013, with over 400 participants including Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, Yangju City Mayor Hyun Sam-sik, GSBC President Hong Gi-hwa, and related representatives from the textile industry.
With the opening of the Gyeonggi Textile Business Support Center, Gyeonggi Province has created a foundation for business activities and general trading in the textile industry through the provision of a unified support system for marketing, design and R&D, and has thus established a foothold for its emergence as a global hub of the textile industry.
Of particular note, along with the Gyeonggi Textile & Sewing Knowledge Industry Center completed in October of 2013, and the Textile Materials Supply & Demand Support Center to be completed in June of 2014, the province will feature a sustainable and systematic support system for the textile industry. Accordingly, the province’s textile industry is deemed to be on the right track for full-fledged development.
Construction of the Gyeonggi Textile Business Support Center began in November of 2011 following a series of consultations with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and with a total investment of KRW 49.4 billion including KRW 15 billion from the central government, KRW 15 billion from the provincial government, and KRW 19.4 billion from the city government. The building, with five stories above ground and two underground levels, has a total floor area of 15,368 ㎡ (site area 23,000㎡).
The center includes the northern office of the Gyeonggi Regional Small & Medium Business Administration, the Yangju branch of the Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Office, the Gyeonggi Federation of Textile Industries and the Korea High Tech Textile Research Institute to comprehensively support textile companies in the province.
“With the opening of the Gyeonggi Textile Business Support Center, we can now establish infrastructure to enhance the competitiveness of the textile industry,” said Lee Yeon-jae, Director of Gyeonggi’s Specialized Industry Division. “We will make continuous efforts for the significant advancement of Gyeonggi Province’s textile industry together with the advantage of the one-week system from order to delivery.”
Prior to the opening ceremony, there was a seminar on the topic of “The Global Leap of Gyeonggi Province’s Textile and Fashion Specialized Industry,” which included a presentation on “Strategies for the Overseas Expansion of Gyeonggi’s Textile Companies Utilizing GTC” by LA Gyeonggi Textile Marketing Center (GTC) President Gene Hwang, along with a discussion on prospects for the global fashion markets and strategies for expansion.
There was a fashion show and a performance by an idol group to celebrate the grand opening. Designer Tony Kwon, who was also the general director of the fashion show, is currently Korea’s only exclusively licensed partner with the top three fashion schools in Italy: Istituto Carlo Secoli, Accademia Italiana, and Istituto di Moda Burgo.
Additionally, the event hall offered an exhibition of smart clothing that showcased a variety of Gyeonggi Province’s textiles, as well as exhibition booths for textile companies of northern Gyeonggi Province and exhibition booths for the graduation projects of the Department of Textile & Clothing Coordination at Shingu College. There were also various experiential events such as a make-your-own-T-shirt program, beads crafts, fashion makeup demonstrations, clothing and makeup styling, and customized fashion system demonstrations.
