Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning held the 2nd Lifelong Learning Eoulim (Harmony) Concert at the Expert Training Center of the Gyeonggi Lifelong College in Seongam-dong, Ansan City, on January 20 and 21.

Under the themes of Communication, Sharing and Harmony, over 500 people attended the concert including related city and county officials, staff of national lifelong learning centers and Lifelong Learning Villages, and study club participants. It was organized to publicize exemplary cases of lifelong education within the province and to establish Gyeonggi Province’s unique system to lead lifelong education in Korea.

On the first day, January 20, many people participated in the programs offered, such as performance presentations of the 365·24 Durunuri Academy, People Building Networks and Paths, Lifelong Learning Network Party, Empathy Talk Talk, and other programs.

At the performance presentations of the lifelong learning clubs from the 365·24 Durunuri Academy, supported by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning, 107 people participated in various teams in areas such as performances (five teams), case presentations (six teams), experiences (five teams), and work exhibitions (15 teams). Network events were also well received by the participants with group games such as “Challenge: Capture 99 Seconds” in which 300 lifelong learning officials were divided into 10 groups. Each winning team received a small gift.

During the awards ceremony, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo presented plaques to approximately 10 qualifying villages selected as Gyeonggi Lifelong Learning Villages  this year including Suwon City and Gunpo City. Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Citations for Lifelong Learning Merit were given to Credu Director Kim Mi-jyeong and Expert Consulting CEO Kim Jeong-mun. The lifelong learning plaques were presented to two villages in Suwon City , four in Gunpo City, two in Anseong City, and three in Yeoju City.

Gyeonggi Province opened the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning in December of 2011, and has since promoted lifelong learning projects by selecting nine regions from among its 31 cities and counties as of the end of last year. The province has been striving to realize job creation through lifelong learning, customized learning support, creative education, and lifelong learning habituation promotion.

Last year, Gyeonggi Province also hosted the “Lifelong Learning Talk Concert with the Governor” in which related officials shared visions of lifelong learning in Gyeonggi Province. Additionally, the province is hosting talent-sharing lectures to provide practical skills applicable in the field.

“In education, learners must take priority over teachers,” said Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo in the opening address. “It is important that Lifelong education provides happiness both to learners and teachers, as well as freedom and happiness through autonomous learning instead of learning by rote.”

“Aside from supporting retirees’ life plans and providing jobs and entrepreneurship education to vulnerable social groups, the Gyeonggi Provincial Lifelong College has been effectively killing two birds with one stone by creating jobs and promoting creativity as well as personality education outside the schools,”said Lee Sung, President of the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning. “This event is expected to contribute greatly to the development of lifelong learning in Gyeonggi Province, while also forming networks and encouraging the sharing of information.”

The Gyeonggi Lifelong College operates in the form of a learning center in each region within the province. There are two facilities that provide accommodations: the Creativity and Personality Center  and the Expert Training Center (remodeled from the former Ansan Camp of Gyeonggi English Village).
