Gyeonggi Province organized an occasion to express gratitude for contributions by over 60 invited entrepreneurs and artists who donated and shared culture and art for more Gyeonggi residents to enjoy.

The Munhwa Eum 2014 Thanks Concert, hosted by Gyeonggi Province and overseen by the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation and the Gyeonggi Arts Center, was held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center on January 22. Over 200 people attended the event, including Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation President Eom Ki-young, Gyeonggi Arts Center Chairman Cho Jae-hyun, the Munhwa Eum Society Committee, and entrepreneurs who made donations.

Launched last November, the Munhwa Eum Society is a supporters’ association made up of luminaries with social influence. They jointly promote a variety of projects for fund-raising such as major exhibitions and performances as well as social contribution activities based on culture and art.

Hosted by pianist Park Jong-hoon, Part 1 consisted of various special performances such as highlights of the Peace & Piano Festival – Peace Concert held last August, a piano performance by the Gyeonggi-Samsung Dream Children’s Choir, a joint performance with pianist Park Jin-woo, and brass quintet performance by the Gyeonggi Provincial Philharmonic Orchestra.

Of particular note, singer Ahn I-ho’s rich-voiced pansori and sweet piano melodies gained attention in Jeokbyeokga on the Theme of Beethoven, and Astor Piazzolla’s Fuga y Misterio was enthusiastically received.

“This is provided to honor people to whom we are grateful, those who showed interest and love in sharing culture with others behind the scenes,” said Eom Ki-young. “We hope you continue to take a great deal of interest in Gyeonggi provincial residents as well as the entire nation, encouraging encounters with culture and art anytime and anywhere.”

“You have made great contributions to help our neighbors laugh, open up their hearts and harmonize,” said Cho Jae-hyun. “We would like to express our appreciation to those of you who took the initiative in the Munhwa Eum.”

Gyeonggi Province presented appreciation plaques after the performances to about 60 donators as well as the Munhwa Eum Society Committee including Taekwang Industrial Vice-chairman Shim Jae-hyeok, Sisley Korea President Hong Byoung-eiy, and AMOREPACIFIC CEO Shim Sang-bae.

“I would like to thank Gyeonggi Province as our participation in the Munhwa Eum made our company as well as myself healthier and happier in mind,” said Venta Korea CEO Kim Dae-hyeon. “I hope more companies participate in sharing.”

“We are carrying out various projects to further activate the Munhwa Eum campaign of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, which has been undertaken in depth since the second-half of last year,” said Policy Project Team Director Gang Soo-yeon at the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, who made preparations for this event. “I hope many companies and residents will participate in this campaign so that the underprivileged can realize and enjoy the values of culture.”
