Gyeonggi Province will take the lead in the win-win growth of South and North Korea in preparation for unification by building the DMZ World Peace Park within the province and promoting South-North cooperation projects.
As the government gave shape to plans for the DMZ World Peace Park, Gyeonggi Province announced on February 19 that the province will work to build the DMZ World Peace Park within the province by making systematic advance preparations through the continuous operation of a TF team and the development of superior logic to secure competitiveness over other regions.
Moreover, in accordance with government policies to restore unity and promote mutual cooperation by proceeding with agro-livestock and forest cooperation, enhanced support for the disadvantaged, and expanded interaction in non-political fields, the province will also push ahead with South-North cooperation projects for the win-win growth of the South and North.
Gyeonggi Province will first provide humanitarian assistance for the disadvantaged such as multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients and infants in North Korea. The province will also expand interaction in non-political fields including Gaeseong hanok (traditional Korean dwelling) conservation projects and South-North youth exchange programs, while pushing ahead with mutually beneficial projects like joint South-North preventive measures against malaria and pine wilts.
There will also be a variety of systematic education programs to train human resources for unification. The province plans to promote unification education in Korea as well as other countries including Germany and China, reinforce an education tour through its cities and counties, and offer unification education programs during the Gyeonggi Forum and job training programs.
Gyeonggi Province will also promote settlement support projects for North Korean defectors. It plans to provide a job tour in connection with local companies in addition to a job counselling tour at six local adaptation centers, and will reinforce customized job training and vocational training, as well as focus on social awareness improvement projects by increasing the number of jobs for North Korean defectors in public institutions and creating promotional videos.
In addition to giving shape to the implementation strategies to build the DMZ World Peace Park while striving for the realization of a unification-friendly society, and enacting a special week for peace and unification culture networks, the government will offer customized settlement support through such means as establishing the grounds for the self-reliance of North Korean defectors.
