Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization co-hosted this year’s first DMZ Bike Tour at 1 p.m. on March 23 at Imjingak in Paju City, near the civilian restriction area along the Imjin River.
The DMZ Bike Tour is an event in which participants can enjoy the magnificent view of the Imjin River as well as its natural ecosystems. Hosted on the fourth Sunday of every month from March to October (twice in April and September), it consists of a 17.2 km round-trip course starting from Imjingak and running through TongIldaegyo, Gunnae Samgeori, and Chopyeongdo.
After consultations with related military authorities, starting this year the decision was made to extend the route by approximately 2 km to 17,2 km, and to provide participants with water and snacks. A variety of events such as postcard writing and a DMZ photo exhibition were also organized for attendees.
Participants applied through the Gyeonggi Province DMZ website (dmz.gg.go.kr) and Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri website (peace.ggtour.or.kr) during a 12-day period from March 3 to 14, and paid a KRW 10,000 entry fee as well as a KRW 3,000 equipment rental fee.
“The DMZ Bike Tour, which is marking its 5th year, is an event that enables participants to enjoy the beautiful environment along the Imjin River and see national security sites up close,” said Oh Who-seok, Director General of Gyeonggi Province’s Balanced Development Bureau. “We will continue to plan safety measures and develop various events to improve participant convenience and satisfaction.”
