Gyeonggi Province is holding a public contest to obtain various policy ideas utilizing public data.
Gyeonggi Province invites members of the public to submit proposals under the theme of “Policies to Open and Utilize Public Data” until March 30 This is a key task implemented under the Government 3.0 plan.
The contest is divided into the Proposal Contest, in which proposals should follow a given format, and the Idea Contest, in which ideas can be easily submitted with no specific format required.
The Proposal Contest collects proposals on providing services, creating jobs, and achieving regional development by utilizing data; the Idea Contest collect diverse ideas by being divided into the well-being category, which includes health, beauty and restaurants, and the tourism category, which includes accommodations, travel packages and camping.
Anyone in Korea can participate in the contest by submitting proposals through the portal Daum’s D.I.Y Festival website (http://eventdaum.daum.net/ggdiy/) or the Resident Suggestion Section on the official website of Gyeonggi Province.
Submitted proposals will be reviewed in April on the basis of practicability, economic feasibility and efficiency. Outstanding proposals will be recognized with awards in May. Selected proposals along with outstanding ideas will be implemented as provincial government policies.
Moreover, winners of the Proposal Contest will receive a cash prize of up to KRW 10 million, while winners of the Idea Contest will receive gifts such as a docking audio set.
Gyeonggi Province opened the D.I.Y Festival, which is an online campaign to open and use public data, in cooperation with the portal site Daum on January 27. So far, over 135,000 people have visited the website and 5,700 people have participated.
“Through this contest, I hope that we can collect various ideas on how to open and use the data of public institutions,” said Kim Tae-hyoung, Director General of the Information System Planning Bureau in Gyeonggi Province. “We’ll make continuous efforts to turn it into a model for a creative economy in which data and ideas are integrated to create jobs.”
