Shuttle buses convey visitors to memorial altar opened on April 23 at Ansan Olympic Memorial Hall

With the opening of a group memorial altar at the Ansan Olympic Memorial Hall, thousands of visitors have come to pay respect to the Sewol ferry victims.

There were 47 pictures of victims on display at the group memorial altar as of 1 p.m. that day. Visitors have been laying flowers and paying respects to the victims.

The Gyeonggi Joint Countermeasures Headquarters is operating eight shuttle buses for the convenience of visitors.

The shuttle buses run through two inter-city routes between Gojan-dong/Seonbu-dong and the altar, and between Wa-dong and the altar. Shuttle buses are also running between the altar and the three parking areas at the Ansan Arts Center (500), Wa Stadium (300) and Hwarang Recreational Park (300).

Public transportation users can take the inter-city routes, and those with cars can park at one of the three parking areas and then take a shuttle bus. The inter-city shuttle bus runs at 30-minute intervals, while the parking lot shuttle bus runs at 10-minute intervals. The altar is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. without charge.

“The roads are too narrow near the Ansan Olympic Memorial Hall where the memorial altar is located, and there may be traffic problems if more people visit, so please use public transportation to visit the site if possible,” requested Hwang Jeong-eun, a Gyeonggi spokesperson.

As of 5 p.m on April 23, 5,600 visitors had been recorded.
