Gyeonggi Province and its sister province British Columbia (B.C.) of Canada held a meeting to discuss their cooperation.

Governor Kim met with Ben Stewart, British Columbia’s Special Representative in Asia, at the Governor’s Office on May 14.

After having served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of B.C., Minister of Citizens’ Services, and Minister of Community and Rural Development, Stewart was appointed as BC Liberal Party’s Special Representative of Asia based in Beijing.

During the meeting, Kim and Stewart expressed their condolences over the Sewol ferry disaster, proposed use of B.C.’s wood for a Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation project (Gapyeong Housing Project), and discussed mutual participation of international events between the two provinces such as Korea International Boat Show, Good Game Show, and SIGGRAPH 2014.

“We welcome our sister province B.C.’s visiting ,” said Governor Kim. “I hope today’s visit accelerates win-win growth for both regions.”

“I hope B.C. and Gyeonggi Province actively promote mutual trade and investment in the future,” said Stewart.

Since forming a sister-province relationship in May 2008, Gyeonggi Province and B.C. have been collaborating in many fields such as the marine industry like the Boat Show, the renewable energy and digital contents industry, and exchange of teenagers and public officials.

B.C. is located at the westernmost part of Canada with a population of 4.58 million and over 65,000 Korean local residents. It was selected as the world’s “Best City to Live” in 2011.
