Gyeonggi Province’s G-Fair Mumbai, held in Mumbai, India, on May 14 and 15, saw 2,967 export consultations worth a combined value of USD 182.49 million (KRW 187.2 billion).

This exceeds the USD 180 million target set for this year’s G-Fair Mumbai, and marks a 6.4% increase over last year’s USD 171.55 million. Gyeonggi explained that this is the first specific outcome since the Korea-India Joint Statement was adopted this past January for the development of a strategic partnership between the two countries.

In 2005, prior to the signing of the Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the province established the Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC) in Mumbai to secure its position in the Indian market, and has aided Gyeonggi companies with their entry into this market of 1.2 billion people by hosting G-Fair Mumbai every year since 2009.

In fact, even with the 4.6% decrease in Korea’s exports to India last year, Gyeonggi’s exports increased by 18.2%; this increase may be attributable to G-Fair Mumbai as well as to various global marketing activities undertaken by GBC.

This year, 69 leading small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Korea (60 from Gyeonggi and 9 from other regions) including Unison Engineering participated in the G-Fair event.

“I’m impressed by the fact that, since we were selected to participate in the fair, they thoroughly checked local marketability, buyer attraction, samples, catalogs and booth displays,” said Bio Health World CEO Kim Wan-gyeom. “I’m extremely satisfied with the good contract outcome we achieved with local buyers. We’re going to aim for bigger deals by striving to maintain our relationships with the buyers we met here.”
