Pangyo, a center of cutting-edge industries, has been energized with the opening of the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub on May 19th in Pangyo Techno Valley for the vitalization of the cultural contents industry.

Many notables attended the ceremony, including Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo; Culture, Sports & Tourism Minister Yoo Jin-ryong,; acting Seongnam City Mayor Lee Han-gyu; and related entrepreneurs and representatives.

The opening ceremony started with an opening address, followed by the introduction of guests, a progress report on the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub, the screening of a promotional video clip, congratulatory remarks from guests, the signboard unveiling ceremony, and commemorative photos. The event concluded with Governor Kim and the guests touring the facility.

Inspiration for realization of a creative economy

With the emergence of the new “880-thousand-won generation” term, growing youth unemployment has become a major unresolved issue in Korean society. This is more pressing than other issues since it is directly relates to the future of the national economy.

The Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub, a facility to support start-ups in the cultural contents industry, provides considerable hope in resolving this unemployment problem. In the form of a consumer-centered smart office that is open around-the-clock, this facility aims to create new markets and jobs for a creative economy through culture.

Various programs are offered such as: the Idea Cloud that enables idea exchanges; the Culture Start-up Planner that supports people in idea formation as well as business planning and launch; and the Culture Creation Network through which entrepreneurs can enjoy a variety of opportunities. The Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub aims to support 5,000 start-ups by 2018 as well as the foundation of 1,000 new companies, and aims to create 2,500 new jobs.

Develop your full potential as owner, not as a guest

“I hope this provides a free environment that enables you to develop your full potential as an owner and not as a guest,” said Governor Kim in his congratulatory address that day, anticipating the launch of many new businesses.

“I look forward to seeing venture businesses develop more freely based on a spirit of convergence and consideration,” said Yoo Jin-ryong, Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism.

Many other guests also expressed their hopes to see this space contribute significantly to the national economy beyond Gyeonggi Province.

Starting off on the right foot: Why we count on the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub

The Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub is expected to successfully fulfill its mandate as it provides opportunities for new businesspeople and gives active support. In fact, many innovative ideas have emerged from the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub. The participants at the opening ceremony were inspired with fresh enthusiasm and drive. The relaxed atmosphere and nurturing environment added to this energy.

Another notable point is the determination of the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub to silently support entrepreneurs in the development of their potential as independent “owners”. That is why expectations are high for the rebirth of this facility as the hub of a new economic growth engine.

In fact, FiveThirty CEO Chung Sang-hwa and Tuneasi  CEO Shin Sung-han resolved to make their businesses successful as representatives of the start-ups. “We wouldn’t have been able to even try without Gyeonggi’s help, but thanks to such great support, we could launch our businesses,” they said.

As Governor Kim and the guests toured the facility, many young businesspeople enthusiastically introduced a promising future and fueled hope for the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub.

So the entrepreneurs are starting on the right foot. The Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub was filled with fresh new enthusiasm, buoyed by Gyeonggi’s efforts to support them.

The important thing now is to maintain this momentum. The focus is now on whether the young participants’ resolve to repay the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub’s help with success and the goals of the facility to create new jobs and foster the cultural contents industry will lead to successful outcomes.
