Gyeonggi Province signed contracts worth a total of USD 14 million for agricultural exports with global buyers from nine countries at the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (GARES) on May 22.

The contracts were made at an invitational global buyer event hosted from May 21 to 23 with the Korea Agro-fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) Seoul-Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters. Buyers will have a tour of exemplary production facilities and distribution systems during the visiting period, including provincial facilities, the aT Center, and GARES greenhouses.

Gyeonggi Province hosts an annual export fair with invited global buyers  around the production sites of the province’s outstanding agricultural products, and made contracts on the spot. This year, a total of ten companies from nine countries, including the U.S., Russia, and Australia as well as Southeast Asian countries, participated in the fair. The USD 14 million contract total represents an 8% year-on-year increase compared to last year’s contract total of USD 13 million.

MinHan Trade and Industry, based in Vietnam, decided to import USD 5 million worth of Sangkyung Vina’s seaweed, ginseng and tea, and buyers from Taiwan and the U.S. chose to import USD 1.7 million worth of Mush M’s and Chungarang’s mushrooms. Moreover, Morning Farm, Elim Trading and Hosan signed contracts for the export of fresh agricultural products and processed foods worth USD 7.3 million.

“Gyeonggi agricultural products are high in quality and consistency, so we can purchase with confidence,” said a buyer after viewing the exclusive booth for G-Mark products certified by the Governor of Gyeonggi Province as well as food ingredient booths at the Suwon aT Center.

“I was looking for a manufacturer of makgeolli (traditional Korean alcoholic beverage) featuring high quality and good taste,” said a Chinese buyer seeking to import makgeolli. “We decided to sign the contract after checking the quality of the products as well as the advanced facilities at the production site of Woorisool.”

“These contracts once again prove that Gyeonggi agricultural products have the potential to enter global markets,” said Kim Ik-ho, head of the Gyeonggi Agricultural Administration Bureau. “We will continue to develop various foods to suit global tastes in connection with the Hallyu culture, such as K-pop and K-food, and pursue global markets more actively.”
