Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning (MSIP) will open the digitally oriented Contents Korea Lab No.3 at the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub (Pangyo) and begin the development of childhood disease diagnosis and treatment contents.
The Contents Korea Lab of the MSIP is a “cafeteria-style” support project that targets project teams consisting of one-person businesses or aspiring entrepreneurs. It provides tailored support in all processes from contents production to commercialization. Beneficiaries will be provided with production funding as well as consultation services in legal, accounting, technical, and global marketing matters.
The province opened Lab No.1 (producer of UHD documentaries) in Bucheon City last December. Lab No.3, which will open soon, is structured for the development of contents for children suffering from amblyopia, heart disease and allergies. The contents will be geared to facilitate their understanding of their diseases and treatments through games or animations with characters they are familiar with on smartphones or tablet PCs by the end of the year.
Gyeonggi Province will provide necessary financial support as well as office space at the Gyeonggi Culture Creation Hub, and the MSIP will provide customized supports such as the funding required for content production as well as expert consultation services in planning, production and distribution.
Moreover, as the first mutually beneficial mobile and smart contents project undertaken in cooperation with the MSIP and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kakao Inc. will support the technologies necessary for contents production and distribution. Seoul National University Children’s Hospital and Ajou University Hospital will also offer medical advice and support in contents propagation and utilization.
After undergoing necessary administrative procedures for utilization, the developed contents will be provided freely to children being treated at both hospitals. The program will then be expanded to other ailments and propagated to medical institutions as well.
“Digital contents in convergence with ICT (information and communications technology) are expected to provide opportunities for those hoping to start up a new company,” said Kim Jae-hoon, head of the Cultural Industry Division. “We will make continuous efforts to relieve the burdens of sick children and their parents by successfully managing the digitally oriented Contents Korea Lab No.3.”
