The 7th Korea International Boat Show, which takes place in Exhibition Center II of KINTEX in Goyang City from June 12 to 15, will be based on the theme of maritime safety.
Gyeonggi Province announced on May 25 that it set this year’s boat show title as the ‘2014 Maritime Safety Conference and Korea International Boat Show’. The province has installed and will operate the Maritime Safety Pavilion, and prepared the Maritime Safety Conference as well as the marine leisure equipment and components exhibition to simultaneously incorporate both maritime safety and the marine leisure industry.
The Maritime Safety Pavilion, which is being operated for the first time this year, will consist of: 1) video clip screenings on best practices for prevention, aid and rescue from global marine accidents; 2) professional training in measures to take in the event of marine accidents; 3) exhibits and demonstrations of equipment necessary for emergency aid and rescue such as life jackets and lifeboats; and 4) a demonstration in a small pool in the exhibition hall.
Moreover, the Maritime Safety Pavilion will be set up at the entrance of the exhibition hall so that all visitors can receive maritime safety education.
In addition, conferences held during the Boat Show will also focus on the importance of maritime safety; they are divided into specialized and general conferences. The 2014 Asia Marine Conference hosted on June 13 is a specialized conference that will be attended by representatives of institutions from Korea and abroad; it is hosted by the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and by Gyeonggi Province.
Session 1 will begin with a keynote lecture by MD Marine CEO Mike Derrett, a maritime affairs consultant from the U.K., on “World Leisure Marine Industry Trends, Vision and Safety Developments”. This will be followed by U.K Royal National Lifeboat Institution Director James Vaughan’s introduction to “Coastal Safety, Prevention and Response – Case Study of the RNLI Organization and Operations” along with suggestions for Korean maritime safety.
Session 2 includes various programs such as the Korea Council of Marine Industry Associations’ presentation on ‘Development Strategies for Korean Marina and Multifunctional Ports’, as well as a separate training session for marine leisure industry experts and panel discussions.
In addition, the province will hold an open conference in the exhibition hall from June 13 to 15, and offer various types of maritime safety education programs including response and emergency aid training in the event of drowning accidents.
“Up until last year, the Korea International Boat Show focused on the exhibition of equipment and components for the vitalization of marine leisure culture and the growth of related industries,” said Choi Hyeon-deok, Assistant Governor for Economy and Investment of Gyeonggi Province. “But this year it focuses on the exhibition of various maritime safety devices and related conferences, including programs in which one can experience actual measures in the event of marine accidents.”
With over 300 marine leisure manufacturers and buyers from all over the world, the 2014 Maritime Safety Conference and Korea International Boat Show is expected to achieve exports worth USD 100 million.
