On the afternoon of May 25, a large number of visitors came to Yeoninsan Provincial Park despite the bad weather. Located in Gapyeong County of Gyeonggi Province, Yeoninsan Provincial Park is one of three Gyeonggi provincial parks, along with Namhansansung Provincial Park and Surisan Provincial Park, and is famous for being home to Korea’s largest nut pine area.

Offering various experiential programs including a forest experience healing program in a pristine natural landscape, Yeoninsan Provincial Park has been emerging as a major tourist attraction in Gyeonggi Province.

Yeoninsan Provincial Park Information Center: A place for exhibits and experiences

There is one place that visitors must visit before climbing the mountain: the Yeoninsan Provincial Park Information Center. At the Information Center, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy various exhibits pertaining to Mt. Yeoninsan along with explanations from forest commentators. By providing a venue for various hands-on activities, the center also helps children experience nature.

The Forest Experience Healing Program: Learn in the forest

The Forest Experience Healing Program of Yeoninsan Provincial Park has gained popularity as a program that visitors of all ages can enjoy. In order to help visitors experience the forest, a total of six programs are offered including the Forest Adventure Along With Sorigil, the Atopy Family Healing Camp and Warongchu, the hidden dragon of Mt. Yeoninsan, as well as trekking trails. All programs are provided for free.

Of particular note, founded in 2011, many families with atopic members have been helped through the Atopy Family Healing Camp. The popularity of this program is increasing; it had 487 participants in 2012, and 687 participants in 2013.  

This program is geared to help atopic patients through systematic medical treatment such as medical checkups and consultations with specialists from the Cheongsim International Medical Center. Moreover, it also provides an opportunity for visitors to nurture love and affection among family members through various forest experiential programs, a smile therapy program and a family therapy program.

Gyeonggi Province strives to protect the provincial parks

Gyeonggi Province is endeavouring to develop its three provincial parks, including Yeoninsan Provincial Park, by expanding various programs and facilities. With the aim of establishing a high-quality provincial park for all residents, Gyeonggi Province has earmarked KRW 4,350 million for Namhansansung Provincial Park, Surisan Provincial Park and Yeoninsan Provincial Park, primarily for the restoration of ecological systems. Gyeonggi Province also announced plans to restore Yongchu Valley in an eco-friendly manner so as to preserve the landscape and eco-systems of Yeoninsan Provincial Park, which has become a healing place for the residents of Gyeonggi Provinces.
