Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Green and Agriculture Foundation will hold the 2014 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Exhibition at Anseong Machum Land from October 1 to 5 to expand garden culture and enhance city brand value.

The 2014 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Exhibition, held once every two years, is hosted by Gyeonggi Province and Anseong City and managed by the Gyeonggi Green and Agriculture Foundation. It has been planned with the subject of ‘Everyday culture is contained in the garden.’

Of particular note, a contest will be held during this exhibition in two categories: ‘the model garden’ for landscaping, gardening, construction, culture, garden design, and so on; and ‘the experimental garden’ for university students of related departments, specialists and associations, citizen gardeners, and others.

With regard to model gardens, the province will select 10 sites by August 18 and support garden creation expenses of up to KRW 40 million at each site. Those who wish to participate are asked to submit a design plan (design concept, floor plan, cross-sectional elevation, outline sketch, and estimated construction costs) corresponding to the subject of ‘Everyday culture is contained in the garden’ for a 12mx12m garden. A financing plan reflecting 20% or more of total creation expenses should be attached.

Ten entries will be selected after an evaluation by a specialist screening group, and the model gardens will be created with the finalization of participating companies from September 1 to 23.

Concurrently, with regard to the experimental garden, four or more persons should take part in an 8m×8m garden and submit a design concept, floor plan, outline sketch, and estimated construction costs with an entry application.

Ten experimental gardens will be selected after an evaluation by the specialist screening group, and material costs of up to KRW 10 million will be supported at each site. Design and construction consultation will proceed in August.

Awards to be presented include the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Prize as the grand prize, the Anseong City Mayor’s Prize as the top prize, the Gyeonggi Green and Agriculture Foundation Chairman’s prize as the prize of excellence, and the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture Chairman’s Prize and the Korean Society of Landscape Architecture Chairman’s Prize as participation prizes. The awards ceremony will be held during the opening ceremony of the Gyeonggi Garden Culture Exhibition on October 1.

Those who wish to participate in the model garden and the experimental garden categories are invited to download an application from the homepage of the Gyeonggi Green and Agricultural Foundation (www.ggaf.or.kr) by August 18, attach the required documentation, and return it via e-mail (sun04844@gmail.com).

An official of the province announced, “Gardens and facilities created during the period of the garden exhibition, held under civil initiative, will not be removed and will be recycled.”
