Construction of an auto parts logistics center for Mercedes-Benz, a world-renowned auto manufacturer, has been completed in Iljuk-myeon of Anseong City, Gyeonggi Province.

More than 400 people including Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Park Soo-young, German Deputy Ambassador to Korea Dr. Rolf Schuster, Anseong City Mayor Hwang Eun-seong, Daimler AG Global Logistics Head Claus Ziemsky, Mercedes-Benz Korea CEO Brita Jeeger, industry representatives and others attended the completion ceremony held on July 10.

Established in 1886, Daimler AG (based in Stuttgart, Germany) is the parent company of Mercedes-Benz. It records annual sales of approximately KRW 160 trillion and was the first to invent the “automobile”. Mercedes-Benz Korea was established in January 2003 and has grown to become one of the top 3 imported automobile manufacturers in Korea.

Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced its ‘Korea 2020’ vision in which it will invest approximately KRW 100 billion in the construction of a parts logistics center, training center, and R&D center while also making social contributions.

The parts logistics center is first of many investments that will be made by Mercedes-Benz pursuant to its ‘Korea 2020’ vision. Approximately KRW 52 billion was invested last year to build the logistics facility. It will provide around 30,000 parts to 59 service centers for automobiles/commercial vehicles and other suppliers.

Cho Kyu-sang, Vice President of Mercedes Benz Korea’s Service/Parts Division, said, “We will seek to improve safety and enhance service quality in our newly built parts logistics center with state-of-the-art systems and devices. Anseong will become the center of parts logistics in the Metropolitan area and nationwide, utilizing the excellent R&D personnel and skilled workers of Gyeonggi Province.”

In his greeting, Vice Governor Park Soo-young said, “We hope that Mercedes-Benz, a leading manufacturer of imported cars in Korea, will work with local companies in Gyeonggi Province to strengthen aftermarket services, reduce logistics costs through domestic outsourcing, and strengthen technological collaboration”.
