In order to protect public health by ensuring drinking water quality, an inspection was performed in the first half of the year, and drinking water products produced and distributed within Gyeonggi Province were approved as safe.

The Paldang Water Quality Improvement Headquarter announced on July 27 that it had inspected 156 out of 178 water suppliers including bottled water producers, importers, distributers and water purifier manufactures over a seven-week period starting in May, with 150 being approved as safe.

Additionally, 120-odd bottled water products were collected for inspection from the shelves of department stores, supermarkets and convenience stores within the province, and all were confirmed as safe to drink.

During the 7-week inspection period, the Paldang Water Quality Improvement Headquarter organized inspection teams including two teams with eight inspectors from the provincial government and self-inspection teams from cities and counties; they checked water production processes as well as the quality of water sources and water products.

A total of six violators were found A company whose water source was found to contain 1.5 times the limits of certain elements was given a one-month water intake suspension. Another company that had been idle for over six months without due notice had its permit revoked. The three remaining companies were found to have committed minor violations, such as neglecting malfunctioning equipment, were given advisory warnings.

Through the inspection of water purifier manufacturers and importers located in 25 cities and counties including Suwon and Anyang, one out of the 110 target companies was found to have violated labeling regulations for additives used in purifying water; a warning was issued to the company.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will provide tips on how to store water and maintain water purifiers through its website.
