KINTEX in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the venue for World Model UN (WorldMUN) 2015, a global conference in which 1,700 college students from 65 nations around the world (including approximately 1,500 foreign students) are expected to participate.
The Gyeonggi Convention Bureau, an organization that promotes the MICE industry in Gyeonggi Province, and the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies announced on August 12 that they received notice from Harvard WorldMUN that they were successful in their bid to host WorldMUN 2015.
Gyeonggi Province explained that three years of efforts undertaken jointly since 2012 with the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies to host the international conference finally paid off.
Accordingly, the WorldMUN 2015 will be organized by the Harvard WorldMUN and co-hosted by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Founded in 1991, the WorldMUN is a travelling annual Model UN conference that has taken place in 23 cities on five continents
Conference activities include: Committee Sessions, in which participants representing countries and organizations debate pressing international issues; Social Venture Challenge, a competition for grants to implement creative solutions from participants for healthcare, education, human rights, technology, and other areas; In-Conference Activities, in which participants interact with diplomats, politicians and academics; Global Village, in which delegates meet each other and build social networks; and a welcoming banquet.
Park Seung-sam, Director of the Service Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “This event is the largest international collegiate-level conference in the world. It will be a great opportunity to promote the province and Korea to students attending leading universities who may potentially work for the UN and other international organizations.”
