Plansee, an Austrian company ranked as the world’s No.1 manufacturer of special metallurgical materials and parts, has pledged to move into the Dongtan Hi-Tech Industrial Complex.

Governor Nam Kyung-pil, who is currently on his first visit to Europe since his inauguration in July of this year, signed an investment MOU worth $10 million with Plansee, as part of a wider effort to draw up a blueprint for the ‘Next Gyeonggi’, in a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters in Reutte, Austria at 10:00am on October 14.

The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Governor Nam Kyung-pil, Plansee’s Chairman Bernhard Schretter, Vice Chairman Ulrich Lausecker, and Vice President Georg Thurner, and CEO Jeong Jong-tae, the head of KOTRA’s regional headquarters in Europe.

Established in 1921 in Reutte, Austria, Plansee is a technology-intensive business specializing in the production of high-performance powder metallurgical materials that can withstand ultra-high temperatures of up to 3,4000C for use in semiconductors, displays, and ultra-high voltage transformers. Plansee is cited as an outstanding example of a ‘hidden champion’ by Hermann Simon in his book Hidden Champions.

Governor Nam Kyung-pil was taken on an inspection tour of Plansee’s factory before signing the investment MOU. In his speech at the ceremony, Governor Nam said, “Plansee will be the first foreign-invested business to move in to the Dongtan Hi-Tech Industrial Complex. Plansee’s decision is expected to serve as an opportunity for its further development in linkage with existing semiconductor and LCD businesses in our province. We at the Gyeonggi Province will continue striving to induce more investment by world-famous businesses.”
