A total of four villages in the province, including Yeomul-ri in Yangpyeong County, received President’s Awards in the 1st Happy Village Contest held by the central government.

Gyeonggi Province announced on November 11 that Yeomul-ri in Yangpyeong County received the President’s Gold Award and a cash prize of KRW 30 million in the income and experience category of the 1st Happy Village Contest. The contest was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and took place at Nonghyeop Anseong Farmland.

In the culture and welfare category, Johyeon-ri in Yangpyeong County received the President’s Silver Award and a cash prize of KRW 20 million, while Jeokga Village in Anseong City received the Minister’s Award and a cash prize of KRW 4 million in the scenery and environment category. In addition, Anseong City received the Prime Minister’s Award and a cash prize of KRW 20 million in the city and county category.

Yeomul-ri in Yangpyeong County was highly evaluated for the creation of new jobs and the enhancement of its income as a whole through the operation of a variety of programs such as a farming experience program for foreign visitors and the provision of camping sites utilizing its geological characteristics and proximity near the metropolitan area.

High marks were given to Johyeon-ri in Yangpyeong County for increasing the number of elementary school students and hosting a health care center under the theme of ‘Village Where Children are Happy,’ and to Jeokga Village in Anseong City for achieving an outstanding performance in clean-up activities with the continuous participation of residents.

Anseong City was honored with an award as its community building project was recognized for its governance system that includes administrative bodies, residents, experts, and civic groups.

Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to identify and promote exemplary cases of community-building projects undertaken in cities and counties, the contest included a total of four categories—the three categories of culture and welfare, scenery and environment, and income and experience for villages, and one category for cities and counties.

Back on September 17, Gyeonggi Province held the 1st Gyeonggi Happy Village Contest for towns, cities and counties within the province, and recommended the winners to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as representatives of Gyeonggi Province.
