On November 22, the ‘Great Union and Sharing Festival’ was held to congratulate the Gyeonggi squad on its performance in the Incheon Asian Games and to convey best wishes for the hosting of the U-20 World Cup

◇ On November 22, Governor Nam Kyung-pil participates in the Kimchi Sharing event with gold medalists of the Incheon Asian Games at the Gyeonggi Great Union and Sharing Festival.

Gyeonggi Governor Nam Kyung-pil participated in the Kimchi Sharing event with gold medalist members of the Gyeonggi squad that took part in the Incheon Asian Games.

At the Gyeonggi Great Union and Sharing Festival, held to congratulate the Gyeonggi squad on its performance in the Incheon Asian Games and to convey best wishes for hosting the U-20 World Cup, Governor Nam expressed his hope to host the U-20 World Cup in Suwon City and made kimchi together with Gyeonggi squad members who won a number of gold medals at the Incheon Asian Games.

The festival took place at Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, which was built as an act of filial love by King Jeongjo. At the festival, Governor Nam said, “Despite the rain, so many people, old and young, came here to participate in this volunteer event. With such warm-hearted efforts, we can achieve reconciliation and unity in Gyeonggi Province, and succeed in attracting the U-20 World Cup to Suwon City.”

“At the Incheon Asian Games, the Gyeonggi squad won more medals than the Iranian squad, which ranked the 5^th. This means the Gyeonggi team itself is the 5^th best in Asia. I’m so proud of all our athletes and thank them for all their hard world,” Governor Nam added. 

◇ Governor Nam said in his congratulatory remarks, “With such warm-hearted efforts, we can achieve reconciliation and unity in Gyeonggi Province, and succeed in attracting the U-20 World Cup to Suwon City.”

Carrying hopes of hosting the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Suwon City, Governor Nam and other participants sent balloons into the air. Suwon Football Association Chairman Nam Yeon-sik delivered funds as an encouragement to the Samil Technical High School’s football team.

For the Kimchi Sharing event held later that day, Governor Nam put on an apron, followed by: Kim Hyeong-jun (Icheon), who won two gold medals in the men’s single and team tennis events; Ham Sang-myeong (Yongin University), one of the best infighters of Korea; and Kim Seon-u (Gyeonggi Physical Education High School), who won the nation’s first gold medal in the women’s team modern pentathlon.

Other athletes who also participated in the event were: Lee Yeong-sil, Kim Ok-ju, Cheon Eun-bi and Park Gi-ju, who are members of the Women’s field hockey team of Pyeongtaek City Hall; Sin Seung-hyeon (Suwon) of the five-man bowling team; Jeong Mi-ra (Hwaseong) of the women’s pistol event; and Lee Ha-seong (Suwon), who won the nation’s first gold medal at the Incheon Asian Games.

“We appreciate the support received from the residents of Gyeonggi Province, and we’re happy to participate in this Kimchi Sharing event. In return for the love and support, we will continue to do our best to achieve good results,” said those athletes.

◇ Governor Nam congratulates Kim Hyeong-jun (Icheon) who won two gold medals in the men’s single and team tennis events.

Including Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member Lee Seung-cheol, Jung-bu Daily Chairman and Sin-Gyeonggi Association President Lim Wan-su, and National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Gyeonggi Director Jo Jae-rok, many of the guests to the festival also participated in the Kimchi Sharing event.

During the kimchi-making event, which runs until November 23, approximately 1,000 citizens and volunteers from companies and organizations will participate to make kimchi using 25,000 heads of cabbages. The kimchi will be delivered in 10kg bags to neighbors in need such as solitary seniors, teen heads of households, and single-parent families.

Members of numerous organizations such as the Suwon Community Service Center, the Gyeonggi Saemaeul Association, the Suwon Saemaeul Association, the Sin-Gyeonggi Association, and the Moran Assocation, as well as employees of the Suwon Fire Department, Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation, Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation, and Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center volunteered at the event.

The festival also offered a kimchi-making program and a kimchi free-sample stand. In addition, it featured invited pop singers including 24K, Yu Na, and Jeong Eun, as well as a local farmers’ market and a traditional market for visitors.
