As members of the Gyeonggi FTA Trade Promotion Delegation, which was organized as part of sales diplomacy efforts, five small and medium companies hit the ‘export jackpot’ in Las Vegas.

The five companies, which operate in the hotel industry in Gyeonggi Province, realized the outstanding achievement of winning contracts worth a total of USD 2.27 million and holding business meetings worth USD 9.5 million with large hotel groups such as the Sands Hotel, Caesars Entertainment, and MGM Grand at the export fair in Las Vegas. The event was organized by the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Las Vegas and in Nevada.

CEO Oh Byeong-du of Hanbim Corporation, a LED manufacturer that signed an export contract of USD 0.4 million, said, “We’ve made great efforts to enter global markets so far, but we haven’t had a chance to have business meetings with the buyers of such large groups before. Thanks to the help of Gyeonggi Province, we had business meetings with large US companies, acquired contact information, and achieved tangible results. I’m thankful to Gyeonggi Province and hope that many more SMEs in the province can have such opportunities.”

The Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center and the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Las Vegas signed an agreement to promote exports by companies in the province and to further exchanges and cooperation on November 16 at the Rio Hotel where the international trade forum took place.

According to the agreement, SMEs in the province will be able to receive support from the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Las Vegas when entering the Nevada and US markets just as was the case for this export fair.

An official of Gyeonggi Province said, “On the basis of this year’s success, we’re going to organize a trade promotion delegation for next year in cooperation with the Nevada state government and the Korean Chamber of Commerce so that enterprises in the province have opportunities to enter not just the hotel industry but also the large distribution markets in Las Vegas.”
