○ Applications will be accepted until January 22; total of 15 villages will be selected for support of KRW 2 to 15 million

Gyeonggi Province will pursue a new type of multicultural village community project in which local and foreign residents work together, and is now in search of participants.

The 2015 Multicultural Village Community Promotion Project of Gyeonggi Province is the first project of its kind this year to bring local and foreign residents together in leading the resolution of issues in local society and fostering warm and blessed multicultural village communities.

The four areas of the project are: Small Community, which focuses on the resolution of local issues including conflicts between local and foreign residents as well as on sports and cultural activities; Happy Community, which provides support for twinning immigrant families with local families as well as for the healthy growth of parents and children including the activities of parenting communities, communal child-care centers, and multicultural community rooms; Job Community, that provides support for the self-reliance of marriage immigrants and for job creation; and Consulting and Support to provide education, consultation and evaluation services for multicultural village communities.

Groups or organizations that are currently working in Gyeonggi Province, including a group of 10 or more residents, are eligible to apply, as well as nonprofit corporations, nonprofit private organizations, and social cooperative organizations that are permitted, authorized or registered by law. For the Consulting and Support category, applications will be accepted regardless of residency.

Those who receive support from other projects, who aim to support a particular party or a candidate, or seek to propagate a particular religion or doctrine will be excluded from this project.

The province will select a total of approximately 15 applicants through on-site observations and evaluations, and provide support of KRW 2 to 15 million per case. For the Consulting and Support category, one applicant will be selected to receive support of up to KRW 20 million.

Any resident group or organization that would like to participate in the project may apply through the Multicultural Families Division of Gyeonggi Province.

For detailed information on application, please refer to the Notice section on the website of Gyeonggi Province (http://www.gg.go.kr).

Lee Sun-neum, Director of the Multicultural Families Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “Different from existing support projects that target multicultural families, this project brings local and foreign residents together in taking the lead. This project is very necessary for the social integration of foreign residents, who are growing in numbers.”
