Gyeonggi Province is hosting international fairs and foreign market promotion events in 10 regions including China and Southeast Asia

To achieve its target of USD 900 million in agrifoods, Gyeonggi Province announced on January 22 that it will undertake various initiatives this year including the opening of foreign markets and the hosting of foreign market promotion events.
Starting with the Dubai Food Exhibition, which will take place in February, Gyeonggi Province will support 55 food companies within the province in 15 foods exhibitions including SIAL CHINA 2015 by focusing on promoted provincial food products such as pears, ginseng, kimchi and traditional liquors.
Furthermore, in order to secure space for superior provincial agrifoods in large-scale distribution stores(Lotus, K-Mart, etc.) and high-end department stores(Emporium, The mall, etc.) overseas, Gyeonggi Province will hold various promotion events in 10 regions including China, Singapore and Southeast Asia.
The province plans to secure markets via promotions associated with the Korean Wave such as K-Food demonstration and tasting events in Asian countries where purchasing power has been increasing due to continuous economic growth. At the same time, it will focus on the promotion of high-quality agrifoods that are popular in specific local areas such as laver, grapes, strawberries and mushrooms in the US and European countries.
Particularly in China, where the export opportunities have increased due to the ratification of the free trade agreement, efforts will be made to increase exports through such initiatives as the development of new distributional channels via support for online market entry(Alibaba, Yihaodian, etc.) and the operation of the Gyeonggi Province’s Agrifood Promotional Exhibition Hall (Yantai).
In order to enhance its export competitiveness, Gyeonggi Province will also support export distribution costs, packaging materials, high-quality export agrifood production and the improvement of an export complex for fresh agricultural products.
A Gyeonggi provincial official said, “Though export conditions are challenging due to the proliferation of free trade agreements and a slowdown in global consumption, we will expand exports by continuously increasing awareness via K-Food fairs, promotional activities associated with large distributors and antenna shops.”
