On April 6, Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation hosts business presentation in Seoul to attract more logistics companies

On April 6, the Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation (GPPC) hosted the ‘Pyeongtaek Port Business Presentation for Logistics Companies’ at the Press Center in Seoul.

Co-hosted by GPPC and the Korea International Freight Forwarders Association (KIFFA), and sponsored by Gyeonggi Province, the presentation was held to promote Pyeongtaek Port, which is known as an ideal port for trade with China, and its competitiveness with regards to logistics, as well as to attract more freight to the port while reducing distribution costs for logistics companies.

Over 100 attendees including CEOs and employees from international logistics companies such as Hyundai Logistics, Hansol Logistics, CJ Korea Express, KCTC, and Daewoo Logistics expressed higher expectations for Pyeongtaek Port in light of the Korea-China FTA scheduled to take effect shortly.

In the presentation, GPPC introduced the port’s current management conditions, logistic competitiveness, advantages, and development plan. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session during which participants exchanged opinions about possible plans to vitalize Pyeongtaek Port.

In his opening remarks, GPPC CEO Jung Seung-bong said, “Pyeongtaek Port’s traffic is expected to increase even further once the Korea-China FTA takes effect this year.” He added, “We will make every effort to ensure that Pyeongtaek Port, which is an ideal port for general trade, grows together with the logistic companies.”

Gyeonggi Province’s Agricultural and Marine Administration Office Director Song Yu-myeon also said, “Gyeonggi Province will provide financial and administrative support for Pyeongtaek Port, including incentives for freight that moves through the port, to assist the development of the regional economy. Such support will also help Pyeongtaek Port to grow as a top distribution port in Northeast Asia.”

GPPC co-hosts a business information session for distribution companies with KIFFA every year to provide information regarding Pyeongtaek Port and to attract cooperation from the distribution industry.

Last year, the total amount of freight processed at Pyeongtaek Port exceeded 100 million tons for the third consecutive year. The port has been setting new records every year, including a record in processing the greatest number of automobile exports and imports for five consecutive years.
