Gyeonggi Province sets out to captivate the taste buds of young Chinese consumers with ‘Gapyeong Cheongpyeong Makgeolli’ full of Yuzu.
On May 12, Gyeonggi Province revealed its plans to host a sales promotion event for Gyeonggi Gapyeong Cheongpyeong Makgeolli from May 14 to 28 at four ShiJi LianHua supermarkets in Hangzhou, China.
The sales promotion event is aimed at increasing agrifood exports from Gyeonggi Province to the Chinese market, a target emerging as the world’s largest imported foods market. Chinese consumers will be introduced to products including ‘Me 3 with Yuzu’, a product that has half the alcohol content (3%) of normal makgeolli products, and ‘Tangy Canned/Rice Makgeolli’, a product that offers an even more refreshing sensation.
Chinese consumers prefer the scent of yuzu, and Korean yuzu tea is received well by the Chinese. This is why Gyeonggi Province anticipates great success with regards to exporting makgeolli with yuzu to China. To host a more effective event, Gyeonggi Province plans to hold sampling sessions, and will hand out gifts to consumers by order of purchase as well as to those who buy more than a certain amount each day.
Meanwhile, famous brands from around the world are rushing into Hangzhou, which is home to an advanced distribution system with large supermarkets, convenience stores, and more. In particular, Hangzhou is open to new food items, and its people have great interest in safe and healthy organic foods. This helps the export of banana-flavored milk, biscuits, yuzu tea, dried laver, and other products produced in Korea.
A government insider said, “Demand for high quality, safe food continues to increase with the rise of income levels in China. As such, the growth potential for Korean agrifood is great.” He added, “Through our superior Gyeonggi makgeolli products, we will push forward with various marketing efforts to increase exports by raising awareness of agrifoods produced in Gyeonggi Province.”
