Gyeonggi Province has organized a joint working group with members from the tourism industry, Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, and Gyeonggi-do Tourism Association. Starting on August 10, the group will participate in promotional efforts for six days to assure locals that ‘Gyeonggi Province is safe from MERS and abounds with attractions’, as well as to support 1-on-1 travel package promotions between travel agents.
Starting with research into local tourism trends and individual sales efforts on August 10, the group will host a travel seminar for key journalists, members of the tourism industry, and local branches of the Korea Tourism Organization in Hanoi, Vietnam, on August 11, and Jakarta, Indonesia, on August 13. In particular, the group aims to attract tourists by actively promoting key tourism products including popular entertainment/drama filming sites, World Heritage sites, theme parks, and activity programs.
A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “Southeast Asia is a new tourism market emerging after Japan and China. We hope to inject some energy into the Gyeonggi tourism industry, which has been suffering from MERS, and to pave way to diversify overseas tourism markets with these overseas sales efforts.”
