Gyeonggi Province has agreed to cooperate with Korean entrepreneurs operating out of the Americas to help develop textile businesses across the province.
In the afternoon of October 16, Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil met with more than 30 Korean textile business entrepreneurs operating in the Americas at the ‘Conference for Exchange and Cooperation between Global Korean Entrepreneurs and Gyeonggi Province’ to explore offshore sales possibilities for textile businesses in Gyeonggi Province and to discuss means for exchange and cooperation. The meeting took place at the Seoul Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
Governor Nam and the delegation of entrepreneurs exchanged views on issues such as expanding the Gyeonggi Textile Center’s overseas marketing branches in Central and South America, helping next-generation designers enter foreign markets, inducing Korean textile entrepreneurs overseas to invest in the Korean market, and other measures of mutual cooperation in the textile and fashion industry.
The delegation visited the Korea High Tech Textile Research Institute (KOTERI) in Yangju and the Gyeonggi Textile Center (GTC) to learn about the current state of technical development for knit fabrics in Gyeonggi Province. The group also toured textile support facilities such as the textile promotion hall, field training center, design lab, and show rooms. Following their visit to KOTERI and GTC, the delegation travelled to a textile manufacturing corporation to get a first-hand look at the textile industry in Gyeonggi Province.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Nam said, “Gyeonggi Province is an engine that leads the Korean textile industry and also a global hub of high quality knit fabrics.” He added, “I hope the Korean textile industry grows to become a leader in global fashion based on continued exchange and cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and Korean entrepreneurs conducting business in the Americas.”
The North and South American markets have emerged as blue oceans for exports from the Korean textile industry thanks to the presence of the three largest Korean clothing wholesale markets: the Jobber market in Los Angeles, the Avellaneda market in Buenos Aires, and the Bom Hetiro market in Sao Paulo. Gyeonggi Province has built intimate cooperative relationships with local Korean textile entrepreneurs to establish marketing footholds in these regions. In July, Gyeonggi Province opened a GTC branch in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s economic center, and currently offers overseas marketing activities for textile corporations in Gyeonggi Province.
