On December 2, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and Gyeonggi Tourism Corporation announced that they have invited more than 20 key tourism industry figures from Beijing and Shandong Province, a sister region of Gyeonggi Province, for a ‘FAM tour’ from November 29 to December 3 of filming locations in the province with a focus on the television drama series She Was Pretty.
The recently concluded popular MBC drama series She Was Pretty has succeeded the SBS drama series My Love from the Star as an immensely popular show in the Chinese market through internet web portals like Baidu and Youku (Chinese version of Youtube)
In light of these developments, the provincial government planned a FAM tour targeting the Chinese tourism industry with an itinerary featuring Yangpyeong Dumulmeori, Paju Heyri Art Village, and Paju Byeokchoji Arboretum.
In addition, Gyeonggi Province added locations such as Pocheon Herb Island, Goyang One Mount, Yongin Daejanggeum Theme Park, the Korea Folk Village, Everland, and Woongjin Play Doci from entertainment programs and drama series popular across China including Running Man, Superman Come Back, Producer, and the Moon Embracing the Sun.
To harness the proclivity of Chinese tourists for shopping, the Suwon Ibis Hotel Encore Duty Free Shop (a downtown duty free shop) as well as large shopping facilities such as AK Plaza and Lotte Mall near Suwon Station and Hyundai Premium Outlets in Gimpo were introduced to the Chinese delegation.
Apart from its shopping program, the provincial government has invited the delegation to experience accommodation services at luxury hotels such as the Suwon Ibis, Value High End, and Novotel Suwon, featuring great accessibility by subway to attract individual un-guided Chinese tourists.
An official of the Gyeonggi Tourism Corporation said, “I hope this FAM Tour serves as a catalyst in promoting high-value-adding tourism products featuring Hallyu and shopping, which are two elements that Chinese tourists prefer.” The official added, “We will continue our marketing efforts so as to attract visitors from China to Gyeonggi Province during the winter season and the Spring Festival holidays.”
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province invited 6 film crews from Shandong Province TV to the province from December 4 to 7 to shoot footage that introduces winter season tourism courses featuring Hallyu and ski resorts in Gyeonggi. The footage will be aired across Shandong Province this December.
